Marbella’s Golden Mile, the Jewel in the Crown of the Costa del Sol

As is often the case when nicknames are coined, the term ‘Golden Mile’ is rather misleading – the commonly accepted distance is roughly six kilometres long and extends from the Plaza Bocanegra in Marbella  with its iconic sculpture El Pirulí, or Copper Tower, to the Rio Verde on the boundary of Puerto Banús. This road was originally built in the first century as part of the Via Augusta, which connected Rome to Cádiz – its straightness giving away its origins. The famous five star hotel, the Puente Romano is also a strong clue to this, as the grounds of the hotel hold the Roman bridge for which it is named.

Marbella’s Golden Mile, the Jewel in the Crown of the Costa del Sol

One of the most expensive pieces of real estate in Europe is encompassed within the Golden Mile in three broad regions – beach and hillside as well as the Golden Mile Sierra.

Beachside Golden Mile hosts the hotel that first attracted the rich and famous to this area. The Marbella Club was opened in 1954 and the international jet-set have been thronging here ever since. Next to the Marbella Club is the Puente Romano Resort and Spa, and along this strip of land between the sea and the main N340 coastal road you will find some of the most exclusive properties in Marbella – from the apartments of the Puente Romano complex to huge villas leading to the Paseo Marítimo.

Mountainside Golden Mile refers to the area between the A7 motorway and the N340. Some of the best known urbanisations here are Nagüeles, La Carolina, Las Lomas de Marbella Club and the Marbella Hill Club, which was developed in the 1970s by Prince Ferdinand von Bismarck, great grandson of the Prussian statesman Otto von Bismarck.

Above the A7 is the prestigious Golden Mile Sierra district, extending to the foothills of the Sierra Blanca mountains. Sierra Blanca is one of the most famous luxury urbanisations in Marbella, consisting as it does of mostly individual plots of land with exclusive villas. Next to it is the Cascada de Camoján gated urbanisation, named after the waterfall that runs through it.

Whatever your preferred destination, Pure Living Properties can help you find the perfect home in Marbella Golden Mile.
